Saving Money, Staying Warm

To save money in the long run, you must start investing in a new heating system now. Reduce your heating costs and discover a whole new level of comfort. Don't wait!

The faster you decide, the faster you profit financially: reduced heating costs, lower maintenance and service expenses, plus, government incentive programs. Think of the future - upgrade today!

To heat for $100, an old heating boiler will cost up to $147 due to its high surface and flue gas heat losses.

A modern heating boiler, however, automatically adjust its operating temperature to the outdoor temperature - and even turns off entirely when no heat is required - saving both energy and money.

Time for an upgrade?

To determine whether a heating system upgrade is worth spending the money on, please review the following:

  • If the boiler is more than 25 years old (see rating plate for year of construction)
  • Older boilers are less efficient and usually have poor thermal insulation (or none at all). Thus they lose a lot of energy (20% or more) through the boiler enclosure. Modern boilers and oil/gas burners are well insulated, very efficient and much more environmentally friendly.
  • The burner fires even on warm days to keep the boiler temperature constant (your boiler room is always warm)
  • Older boilers risk corrosion damage if they go through cycles of cooling and reheating. Therefore, they always run at a high operating temperature even if no heat is required. This results in unnecessary energy consumption.
  • The domestic hot water temperature cannot be adjusted separately

With many older boiler controls the domestic hot water temperature cannot be adjusted separately. The domestic hot water temperature thus corresponds to the unnecessarily high boiler water temperature.

Old heating system:
  • Fuel Efficiency (oil): 68%, Annual Fuel Consumption: 4800 liters
New heating system:
  • Fuel Efficiency (oil): 87%, Annual Fuel Consumption: 3500 liters
Savings:
  • 1300 liters, which equals $910 a year (at $0.70/ltr of oil)
